Is Cody Simpson the Next Justin Bieber?

Recently I’ve been hearing a lot about a hot new teen sensation: 13-year-old singer Cody Simpson. But when I asked my 10-year-old, Justin Bieber-obsessed daughter about Simpson, she refused to even discuss him. The fact that she'd seen Simpson perform live and even met him did nothing to sway her devotion to 16-year-old Bieber.

My older daughter was a bit more interested, so we decided to team up to see how  how Simpson compares to the floppy-haired sensation. Here are five things the newcomer has in common with The Biebs:

1. The mysterious foreign factor
Ever since The Beatles, American gals have had a thing for male singers from different countries. Bieber is Canadian, and although it’s just next door from the U.S., it’s far enough to make him more appealing. But Simpson may have the advantage here, as he’s Australian and can charm young ladies by simply saying "g’day."

2. Repetitive, catchy lyrics:
Bieber sings "Baby, baby, baby," and Simpson sings "I yi yi yi." Apparently repeating words nonsensically, is the formula for creating a sure-fire hit song that young girls can’t stop singing and parents can’t bear hearing.

3. Rap it up:
Both Bieber and Simpson’s biggest hits feature high profile rap artists giving their pop songs some edge. Bieber’s "Baby" includes Ludacris rapping about his first love and Simpson’s 'Iyiyi' has rapper Flo Rida professing his devotion.

4. Luscious locks:
Gorgeous hair makes the ladies swoon, and both Bieber and Simpson rock signature styles. Bieber’s layered hair is blown over his forehead, his perfect bangs inspiring a thousand tween smiles. Simpson’s style is a lighter, fluffier, beachy surfer look that is irresistible to girls.

5. Boys don’t buy:
Guys who are wildly popular with women usually suffer the consequences of jealous males. Bieber does not go over well with tween boys, who see the perfectly coifed singer as a threat and resort to publicly criticizing and protesting his music. Although Simpson is a hit with the young ladies, he hasn’t quite made it to the status of being shunned by boys -- they simply don’t know enough about him to hate him. But if Simpson’s star continues to rise, he’ll have as many boys resenting him (while wanting to be him!), as he has female fans.

My daughter and I agree: the similarities between Cody Simpson and Justin Bieber seem to indicate that Simpson has a good chance of making it as a pop star. Plus, this mom is already annoyed by his "Iyiyi" song, which is truly the sign of a tween hit!

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West: Big Apple Buddies

Making the most of her first full day of a temporary move to the Big Apple, Kim Kardashian was quite the busy lady on Monday (October 4).

Making her rounds alongside sister Kourtney, as well as Scott Disick, the E! reality star ended up meeting up with Kanye West while checking out at an available retail space for a NYC Dash store.

Aside from her east coast doings, Kim tweeted to her fans about a recent commercial shoot which she filmed alongside some pretty big names in show business.

She wrote, "I just shot a commercial for California! The Jonas Brothers, Betty White and Jason Mraz are also in it! I can?t wait to see how it turns out! Where all my California girls at? LOL"
