Chris Brown apologized for his violent, window-shattering outburst on Wednesday. The 21-year-old singer went ballistic backstage following a Good Morning America interview in which Robin Roberts questioned him about his 2009 beating of then-girlfriend Rihanna. In an appearance on BET's 106 & Park Brown attempted to make amends.
"First of all, I want to apologize to anybody who was startled in the office, or anybody who was offended or really disappointed in my actions, because I was disappointed in the way I acted and, you know, a lot of people don't know what went down," he said.
Roberts acknowledged his apology, saying, "We appreciate (that) he apologized to the staff because they were shaken by his violent outburst."
Although the morning show host said Brown knew ahead of time "the subject matter and the topics," the singer claims he had sent talking points to GMA ahead of time that didn't include his history of domestic abuse. ABC News said in a statement, however, that "there were no talking points offered (by Brown beforehand)."
"I felt like, OK, they told us this just so they can get us on the show so they can exploit me," Brown vented on the BET show. "You know, that's what I thought... And I kind of took it very, very hard."
"You could see me upset (during the GMA interview)," Brown admitted. "I kept my composure and did my performances. And when I got back, I just let off steam in the back. I didn't physically hurt anyone. I didn't try to hurt anyone." Watch for yourself below!
Brown's outburst hasn't hurt the sales of his new album F.A.M.E., which debuted Tuesday as iTunes' most downloaded record. "It's time to move on, everyone (needs) to move on," Roberts said of the incident. "We wish him the absolute best and this too shall pass."
