Is Martha Stewart the Next Barbara Walters?

Martha Stewart can make her own Christmas decorations, plan a perfect wedding and grow organic herbs, but what she really wants to do is... interviews? Homemaking guru Stewart, 69, spoke enthusiastically to reporters about her upcoming primetime interview special, Martha Stewart Presents, in which she'll be talking to fashion industry big shots like Donna Karan and Diane von Furstenberg. Stewart is hoping that the show opens up a new career for her -- namely, the career currently being occupied by Barbara Walters.

"My favorite interviewers are Larry King, 76, and Barbara Walters, 80 -- both of whom are kind of retiring," says Stewart, who is also re-launching her successful daytime show on the Hallmark Channel. "Who's going to take their place as the serious, great interviewer? I'm throwing my name in there because I love to talk to people."

Which people do you like to talk to, Martha? "I'm attracted to groups of people, like the hottest, sexiest young male movie stars," she said. "Who are they? Who are they really? How do they live? How do they cope? That's another potential interview show." The entrepreneur, who says she has "lots of ideas," also suggested that she could talk to her favorite comedians ("How do they come up with their material?"), First Lady Michelle Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. (How about she interviews them all at once? We think Taylor Lautner, Joan Rivers and Michelle Obama would have a lot to talk about.)

Stewart, of course, doesn't possess Walters' 50 years of journalism experience. She is, however, the most ruthlessly perfect person on the planet. Maybe she should consider a format that caters better to her particular skill set. How about she goes to "sexy, young male movie stars"' houses and organizes their underwear drawers by color and style? She could make her favorite comedians cook her dinner, then criticize their seasonings. Or she could challenge Hillary Clinton to a dinner-party duel, in which they see who can throw a better soiree for a foreign diplomat. (Our money's on Martha!)

If you want to see how well Stewart does Barbara Walters' job, tune in on Sept. 19 at 9 p.m. on the Hallmark Channel.
