Michael Douglas Talks Cancer with David Letterman

It's been less than a month since Michael Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer, but the actor seemed to be in high spirits as he discussed his health on The Late Show with David Letterman.

"I just wanted to see how far I would go to promote a movie," the Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps star joked on Tuesday. But the actor, 65, got serious when he revealed that he's already completed his first week of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
"You've never looked better to me, and this proves that you're a tough guy, for God's sake," Letterman said, drawing cheers from the studio audience.
"Let's just say...I'm pretty lit up right now," Douglas replied.
The actor says that he had been having trouble with his throat for a few months, but it was only after he spent a "wonderful summer with (wife) Catherine (Zeta-Jones) and the kids" that doctors came to him with the cancer diagnosis.
"I got a biopsy and they analyzed it and it's a stage four, which is intense, and so they've had to go at it," Douglas says. "You like to be down at stage one...but the big thing you're always worried about is it spreading, and I am head and neck -- nothing's gone down."
Though he's feeling well now, Douglas says the road ahead will be rough. He revealed that he may have trouble eating solid foods and that his voice may change as his treatment continues. But the actor remains optimistic and says that doctors have given him an 80% chance of a full recovery.
Seemingly as full of life as ever before, Douglas is facing his medical crisis head on. And when Letterman asked if there was anything he could do for the actor, Douglas simply replied, "Aww, just give me a hug."
